Dayton, Ohio is a magical place full of construction, cool monuments you've seen thousands of times and boredom. A city that inhabits a couple hundred thousand (including the suburbs) seems like a small town since everyone knows each other. Growing up, you swore you would leave and get outta dodge--but as you get older, you realize Dayton is actually kind of great.

1. You went on a field trip to Wright Patterson Air Force Base Museum every. Single. Year. In grade school.

2. You know what the word "jetty" means.

3. Basketball means nothing unless it's FLYERS basketball.

4. You've honked at the lady who stands on Brown St. at the corner of UD's campus.

5. Never in your life have you actually pronounced the "T" in Dayton. (It's Day-In).

6. At least two of your friends went to (insert Saint Name) Catholic School for grade school.

7. The Oregon District is the coolest thing about Downtown.

8. ...OK besides the night sky ceiling of the Schuster Center.

9. JJ's. That's all.

10. You know the Miami River is more like a giant brown puddle.

11. Have you ever seen I75 without construction?!

12. Almost everyone has a slightly southern accent and wears camo, although we are clearly part of the Midwest.

13. You might have gone to a public school bigger than some colleges. (I'm looking at you, Centerville)

14. Speaking of Centerville...BILL'S DONUTS.

15. Does the Dayton Mall still exist?

16. Cousin Vinny's is your favorite kind of cousin. Especially at 2 a.m.

17. You went to Masque for your 18th birthday...and then every Wednesday until you moved to college.

18. It's Ohio State, or get out.

19. You've gotten a speeding ticket in Oakwood.

20. You took your report card to Cheryl & Co. to get free cookies in grade school.

21. At least three people from your high school have sent you their Sound Cloud link with the nice note of "Listen to my mixtape fam."

22. Brown Street is heaven to anyone remotely hungry.

23. You know no hot dog will ever compare to a Zombie Dog.

24. Your parents tried to pressure you into going to Wright State, or Sinclair to live at home and save money.

25. There was a 100 percent chance your Friday nights in high school revolved around your local football games.

26. You and your friends heard the ghost story of Cry Baby Bridge and all hopped into your car to try and check it out.

27. Going to Land of Illusion was the highlight of your Halloween.

28. You claimed you would never come back, but you always find yourself visiting home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
