Note: If ghosts or just generally spooky things freak you out, I highly suggest you stop reading.
Troy University has a long list of haunts that have been associated with its history, but perhaps the most famous is that of 'Sally' in Shackelford Hall.
Here's how the story goes. Sally was a student living in Shackelford during a war. Her fiance was unfortunately killed, and Sally was beside herself with grief. She decided to hang herself in the stairwell going up to the fourth-floor attic.
Due to this, there are some pretty creepy things that happen in the hall. One RA stated that before anyone moved in this year, she was using the elevator to go up to her floor. There is a key that you are supposed to use to get up to the fourth floor, but on this particular day, it took her up there with no key.
There are also some weird things happening in the dorms, including to my roommate and me. Our air randomly stops working, and we've both heard things at night. One weekend when I was home, my roommate says she woke up one night and saw a shadow at the edge of the rug in our dorm when no one was there but her. We have both tried to figure it out, and there is no way to explain the shadow.
One of the scariest things that happened to us actually happened to a friend of my roommates. He was taking a nap in our dorm one day when he suddenly started moving around. When we asked him about it, he says that 'Sally' was trying to kill him in his dream. She had his arms behind his back and was trying to strangle him. Whether this is true or he was trying to freak us out I don't know, but it's enough to make you wonder.
Whether 'Sally' is real or not real, it does make Shackelford Hall a bit more than just a dorm on campus.
