The End Of The Semester As Told By The Grinch

Every college student is feeling more than a little Grinchy right now

Before any college student can enjoy "the most wonderful time of the year," they must go through the worst part of the semester. The end of a semester is enough to turn even the friendliest college student into a full-on Grinch.

1. Realizing that finals are only a week or two away

Finals had always seemed like a problem that future you was going to have to deal with. But now you realize that the future is now and you have to learn a whole semester's worth of material for four classes in two weeks.

2. Trying to find room in your schedule for things other than studying

But knowing that you aren't going to have a free minute from now until the end of your last exam.

3. Cursing your professors for trying to cram in one last unit

Wouldn't it be nice if we actually spent the next couple of weeks reviewing the 20 units we have already covered this semester instead of learning 50 new key terms that will all be on the final?

4. Realizing that all your finals are cumulative

With over a dozen chapters covered, dropping out may be your only option.

5. Getting one last final project assigned

Final projects are the bane of every college student's existence (just as bad as #3). How are you supposed to study when you have a 10-minute presentation and a six-page essay due the week before finals?

6. Feeling sad that you can't enjoy the Christmas season

You swear that you would love nothing more than to bake Christmas cookies while watching back-to-back Christmas classics! You haven't forgotten the magic of the Christmas season! You're just too busy!

7. Missing all the time you had to spend with friends

You're not usually a recluse... but you also can't remember the last time you hung out with someone other than to study or talk about how stressed you all are about finals.

8. Knowing that all the studying may not pay off

Because you honestly haven't really retained information since October and your brain has been on vacation since Thanksgiving break. There is a good chance you may fail no matter how much you study.

9. But not caring because you can't wait to go home

The only thing getting you through the next couple of weeks is knowing that you get to go home, relax, and finally enjoy the Christmas season.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
