For about 17 years an average student resides in the same place for that entirety to complete their studies. After that time is up they move on to either work, serve, or study somewhere different from that same place. At that same place they will meet friends from across the map that will change their life and view on the world. Why? Because they carry lessons and perspectives from places across the map of the entire world. Not only do they give you the power to explore the world mentally, but also physically. The best part -- being able to share these great new things with them.
Some of the people I have met in college live as far as Asia or as close as the U.S. Through people from different areas I am able to learn more about the world and become more culturally educated, which has helped me find similarities in the differences we have with each other -- one of the best parts about college.
Focusing back on the closer friends I share from around the country, I am able to see the blessings in disguise they are able to give and then share with me. Different areas, different foods, different fun, different activities and different lifestyles. Already there is so much to learn in a friendship, so the lessons just multiply with distance.
I have been able to learn about the beauty of New Jersey's beaches, the feud between the North and South shores of Long Island and more, not to mention what I also learn from my friends' families and where they originate.
Looking back to a year ago, I realize that I actually did not know a lot about the world. But now since I do, I can play a more active and educated role in it. With this, there is much more I can do to enjoy the world I live in and also work to make it an even better place.
It's funny that something as small as one person can change your perspectives about things completely and that a group of people can allow you to enjoy them even more.
