I See You, Taylor Swift

Thank you Calvin, Kim, and Kanye for proving once and for all that my pettiness towards Taylor Swift is not unfounded.

I don't know if it's the fact that the entire social media world has split down the middle on this Taylor-Kimye feud, or the fact that I'm having dinner with my ex tonight, but something has me in an extra petty mood today.

I'd like to start by prefacing with, yes, I think Kanye is an egotistical, misogynistic ass, who really needs a lesson in feminism, but I also really just don't like Taylor Swift.

I think it all started back when she was masquerading around as a country singer. Being from the South, everyone just assumes that I like country music. I don't. I never really have. And the only stuff I will tolerate is the old school stuff like Jonny Cash and Willie Nelson. Not this pop-y BS people are trying to shove down my generation's throat.

Second reason I don't like Taylor Swift is because literally her entire career has been built on badmouthing her ex's. Now, I have to be careful so I don't slip into hypocritical waters, since as a writer myself I get the whole needing to vent about f*ckboys thing, but there's this little dignity-saving thing called "discretion" that Ms. Swift really hasn't figure out yet. I mean, "Dear John", give me a break. Out of all the guys she's dated, Taylor has never been called out by a single one of them. Until Calvin Harris that is--Christmas has come early for me this year. She's always somehow the victim. I don't know maybe she really doesn't know how to pick em', or maybe they were just too scared to say anything against "Queen Taylor" lest they be mobbed by her legion of minions, the "Swifties".

Third reason I don't like Taylor Swift is because of her infamous "girl squad" aka the supermodel, super skinny, completely unattainable squad. I'm with Chloe Grace Moretz on this one; "squads" especially ones that are made up of all girls, are not good examples for our younglings these days. We should teach our kids that, yeah, it's ok to have close friends, not everyone needs to have the same level of relationship with you, but exclusion and cliques are NOT Ok.

And finally, the fourth reason (but probably not the last reason) I don't like Taylor Swift is because I've known exactly how shady she is this entire time. I could never explain it to my friends in a way that would actually make them turn down "22" long enough for me to speak. On the outside Taylor Swift is everything. She's beautiful, talented, likes cats, has catchy--if not annoying--songs, she has a perfect group of friends, can rock red lipstick anywhere, even to the gym, and dances like a fool like most of us. But underneath all that likability is a girl who has been found to go back on her word, not once, but twice in the same week.

In conclusion, I just want to thank Calvin Harris, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West for finally proving once and for all that my pettiness towards Taylor Swift is not unfounded, and that I'm not crazy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
