The story of the Scorpio has many possible origins, but the most popular one is that of Scorpio vs Orion.
While there are many different stories about Orion as well, the one that I am focusing on for this constellation involves Orion being a great hunter on earth. Because he was involved with the Greek goddess of the dawn, Eos, he boasted about their relationship, his conquests, and how his hunting abilities were better than that of Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt.
Usually, Artemis would get angry and get rid of anyone saying that they were better than her at anything, but, in this case, she had a crush on Orion and couldn't bring herself to kill him.
Her brother Apollo, the god of the sun, and her mother Gaia, the mother goddess and goddess of the earth, did not approve of a human saying that they were better than Artemis. Together they talked and Gaia created a giant scorpion to hunt Orion.
When the scorpion was placed on earth, it chased Orion until it fatally pricked him with his poisonous tail. Zeus, the god of gods, comes in at the end of the tail and says that he has been watching the whole thing take place and decides that both Orion and the scorpion showed bravery, strength, and strategy and both deserved to be placed in the night sky to be remembered forever. They were placed 108° apart from one another so that they wouldn't continue fighting in the heavens.
