I will never (at least not anywhere in the near future) be the first to openly support Trump. I don’t like the views he has, I don’t like the things he has said and I don’t like all of the negative thoughts his name brings to half of the country. Now before anyone accuses me of supporting Clinton, let me tell you that you are wrong. I do not support her either. But I know that Trump was elected. And whether people agree or not with that fact is not any concern of mine, but I will respect him as the President-Elect and as the future President of the United States of America.
We live in a country that has always boasted so loudly about its freedom and rights to others, yet to each other, we strip these privileges the second we disagree on something. It’s disgusting, really. In the video I have linked here you will see Americans attacking Americans.
I don’t want anyone to say anything about race. This isn’t a problem about race or religion or political views or even sexual orientation. This problem we have is about being a broken country that doesn’t want to be fixed.
In the video you will see an older man, who is said to have been dragged out of his car, be brutally beaten for exercising his right and freedom to support the candidate he thought would best fit the needs of this country. In the background of the video you can hear people yell at the man, “You voted Trump? Yeah, he voted Trump! Beat his a**! Don’t vote Trump!” as he is thrown to the ground .
I won’t judge you if you decide not to watch the video, as it is very graphic and it might upset some people. But those things were clearly said. There’s no denying it. There’s also no denying that occurrences like these are major problems in our country.
At the end of the video, the man has his car stolen as he is dragged away with it trying to hold on with his remaining strength. You can hear the person filming say, “Y’all be gone though, police are gon come.”
When I say this country is broken, I’m sure all of you can see what I mean. It’s as if this country has lost its morals and standards. We go on and on about our rights and freedoms the government owes us, yet we don’t grant the same respect we demand to our neighbors. We preach about being Godly, yet we judge and intentionally hurt others. We dictate the feelings others are supposed to feel and express and when the same is done in return it isn’t all right anymore. We’re told time and again to worry about only you and when we do, we are criticized.
It’s ironic. To outsiders, we say we’re a unified country, that we’re proud to be American. I find it very hard to see any pride in something like this. All I see is ignorance, hatred and negative discrimination.
Because I know I will get a lot of backlash for a word like discrimination, here is its original definition:
Discrimination: noun recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.
There is nothing wrong with discrimination. Knowing that someone is different and their views vary from yours is a good thing! Reacting against them to cause harm is wrong and a criminal offense.
Recognize each other’s differences and grow from the compromise you create with one another.
