April 16, 2016, is the date for this year's much-anticipated international Record Store Day (RSD). The concept celebrates not only music and its makers but also gives special attention to local record stores and their hard-working staff. It is the first and sometimes only opportunity to purchase RSD exclusive vinyl, CD releases, cassettes, and other promotional products.

The official list of releases will be here when announced.

1. The Sound Garden – Fells Point

The Sound Garden has everything you could want from a local record store and more. Their staff is extremely helpful and will even make recommendations based off of your purchases. They frequently have in-store performances and signings; just this summer they had All Time Low. The store carries a wide range of music organized by genre, but also carry movies, knick-knacks, video games, posters and more. Bonus points: they are pet-friendly! The Sound Garden was second on Rolling Stone's "Best Record Stores in the USA" and is naturally first on my list for the best in Maryland.

Tip: Get here EARLY! People line-up at this location for RSD the night before but it's worth the wait for the wide selection and organization. This might be the best pick for indie and punk lovers but really caters to everyone.

2. Celebrated Summer Records - Hampden

Celebrated Summer Records is not only one of the cleanest record stores, it also is part museum featuring art work and memorabilia all over the walls. The store specializes in carrying punk, hardcore, rock, jazz, and soul music, but also sells books and apparel. The owner, Tony, is super friendly and sometimes even gives out free donuts!

Tip: Call ahead to see what release they are getting. Genre specific stores might not get everything on the RSD list. This is not your best pick if you are more into current mainstream music.

3. The Record Exchange - Frederick

Frederick, MD is full of local businesses and friendly people and The Record Exchange is no exception. The store sells everything from vintage vinyl to new releases. They also have a location in Silver Spring that is participating as well.

Tip: While you're in the area visit the other record stores: Vinyl Acres and Rock And Roll Graveyard.

4. Ka-Chunk Records – Annapolis

This record store is has a gift for stocking rare records but also stocks new release, re-issues, records at a bargain price, and old records.

Tip: Figure out where you are going to park before you go. This is really the only record store in its area. It's another small shop so call ahead if you are looking for something specific.

5. JoJoSouth Record Shop - Hampden

Another extremely clean and organized shop. It has selections for R&B, blues, soul, regular rock & roll and more.

Tip: If you don't find what you want here there are other record stores in Hampden: The True Vine, Strawberry Fields, and, of course, the participating Celebrated Summer.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
