In honor of my idol's birthday, I decided to write about all the reasons she is my role model and should be yours too! After all, there is no better role model for modern day girls than the flamboyant, hot mess that is Mindy Kaling.

1. Mindy is the epitome of "Treat Yo Self" and completely embodies the mantra. When you work as hard as she does, and are as fabulous, you deserve to Treat Yo Self ... a lot.

2. Mindy is totally not afraid to admit that she is often inspired by herself. After all, happiness comes from within, and she doesn't need a man to prove she's fabulous.

3. Mindy shows us time after time that everyone is not always who they seem to be, and everyone deserves a second chance.

4. Hey, Mindy knows that 90 percent of life is just showing up, and having a good attitude is only going to help!

5. Mindy knows that good things are worth waiting for and, even when horrible things happen, everyone will find their Kanye eventually.

6. Mindy takes no BS and neither should you. Especially when it comes to dessert.

7. Mindy knows how to look on the bright side. She always gives 100 percent ... even it means giving 100 percent at failing miserably.

8. Mindy simply calls it as she sees it, and she ain't afraid to say what's on her mind.

9. Mindy is such a romantic that she plays Mindy Lahiri, who is so obsessed with romantic comedies that she pretends to be Sandra Bullock, an actress in romantic comedies. #inception

10. Mindy totally understands that life never quite goes as planned, and that's OK. Sometimes, people end up doing the exact opposite of what they expected to do.

11. Mindy is fully aware that (her) birthdays are the most important days of the year, and require extremely well thought out gifts, elaborate parties and a parade of elephants.

12. Most importantly, Mindy accepts her flaws and knows that she is the best Mindy she could be.
