The Reality Of Winter Break In GIF's

As the semester comes to a close, there is no denying that each and every one of us are counting down the hours to when we will finally be free. Between end of semester projects, presentations and final exams, our brains are on the verge of shutting down. We yearn for a month long break and imagine all of the super awesome stuff we are going to do. But what do we really do over break? Do we go hang out with all of our old friends from high school that we "miss so much?" Do we take super rad day trips up to the mountain to hit the slopes? Do we take that vacation abroad we have been talking about planning for months now? Let's be real, by the time we realize that our break plans will never happen, and that our break has been somewhat, well, mediocre... it is usually too late to do any of these "super awesome" things we had in mind. In fact, at this very time you are probably sitting in bed or on your couch debating whether or not to watch the 10th episode in a row of whatever you are binge watching on Netflix or to, God forbid, stop what you are doing for 5 minutes to go get another sleeve of Oreo's.

SO, with all of this said, why don't we stop kidding ourselves and talk about what break has really been like. A long, lazy, fattening, month of just about nothing that we had planned it to be.

Let’s put it this way,

1. School’s Out! ...For now, at least.

2. Packing to go home

3. Going home and finally eating real food

4. Texting all your friends from home...

5. Playing with your dog. I MISSED YOU SO MUCH.

6. Sleeping in!

7. Binging Netflix... for hours, and hours.... and hours...

8. Eating, eating, eating

9. Bitching that you're bored

10. Watching people's Snapchat stories of them away on vacation, and well, crying

11. Thinking about working out...

12. Not.

13. Eating MORE

14. Realizing it's already time to pack up for next semester...

15. How did I get all this stuff home to begin with?

16. Saying goodbye to your parents...

17. But more importantly, your dog :'(

18. Getting back to school and realizing you're still pale, fat, and poor, just like you were a month ago.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
