As the semester starts to wind down, we all start dreaming about summer. We desperately want classes to end so we can have a break and enjoy the awesome weather to come. However, our dreams and plans for summer never add up to what we face when it actually comes around. Lets take a look at the realities of summer break.
Sleeping your life away. We use summer break as an excuse to sleep. All the time. We stay up late doing who knows what and sleep in till all hours of the afternoon.
Separation anxiety from school friends. You spend all your time with your friends at school but typically you all go home to different cities or states during the summer. These months spent apart are one of the biggest challenges y'all will face in your relationship.
You find odd things to do. There is usually not much going on around campus or your hometown during the summer. Therefore, the smallest activities seem like a good time.
You work your life away. For those of us lucky enough to find a good job over the summer, you feel like all you do is work. Sometimes you feel left out on all the fun your friends are having who aren't working.
Can't find a job. Many of us can't find a quality job or internship over the summer and spend weeks searching for one.
Spending all your time outside. Thinking you will be super outdoorsy once it warms up, we actually use the heat as an excuse to stay in. For some of us, a tan is a goal for the summer, for others we just simply burn.
Keeping up with the past. Summer break pretty much forces us to have get togethers with old high school friends. Most of us can agree that this is the only time out of the year we hang out with these people.
Nagging parents. Moving back home for the weeks of summer can cause some tension between you and the rents. They just really missed you -- or having someone to boss around.
Spending money. Whether you don't have any money 'cause you can't get a job or you do have one and are trying to save, pretty much anything worth going out to do costs a ton of money.
Netflix binges. We watch episode after episode, season after season, series after series.
Nanny life. A lot of girls send their summers nannying. This seems like an awesome job -- paid to go to the pool and run carpool. However, it helps us realize kids are the last thing we want.
Summer goals never happen. Most of us have lists of what we want to get done while we're on break. But when we go to accomplish these things we're just like:
Summer classes. Some of us take summer classes to catch up or get ahead. The motivation is lacking much more than during the normal school year.
Lets get in shape. With nothing to do you can spend your summer at the gym right? This usually goes down the drain along with your summer goals once you go on a run in 100 degree weather.
Expectations vs. reality. We expect to travel and have super cool adventures while we are free from school. More often than not, we don't get those awesome Instagram posts we were hoping for.
