Push Through The Home Stretch Of Fall

The fall semester is historically a tough one, but keep going.

Ah, the fall semester of college. The best times and the worst times. The fall semester is a rough couple of months. It comes after having a lot of time away from school, that is unless you take part in summer courses. Even if you spend your summer working, volunteering, or doing an internship, when you check out of school for four months, it's tough to get back. By November, most people have hit the wall.

For me personally, for the first time in my college life, I hit the wall in the middle of September. The stress and the balancing act I was attempting completely overtook me. I don't find it discouraging, I find it rather hilarious actually. Because I normally would be hitting the wall now and as of right now I'm about 110% done with this semester. And the worst part is, we're only at Thanksgiving break.

But these couple of weeks coming up are the weeks that make or break the entire semester. If you let yourself hit the wall and fall into terrible habits before all of your papers, projects, and finals come, you're in bad shape. You have to find it in you to keep going, it could seriously be the difference between a 3.8 and a 3.3.

We are in the home stretch of the fall semester ladies and gentlemen. What do we have to look forward to? Winter break. For some of us, that's a month off. For some lucky people that go to Delaware, that's almost like two months off! That's amazing. The holidays come, for whatever religion you are. For me it's Christmas. I get to eat a lot of food and watch my nephews open gifts and then kill each other and torment all of the adults. It reminds me of what I was like when I was five. Then there's New Years. I may be a little biased but I'm not sure if there's anything better than being in New York for New Years.

But if you screw up the semester you might not get to enjoy it as much. Your friends all come home and they talk about how great things went for them. Your parents get mad at you. You don't feel that great about things.

So keep on keeping on. Don't die at the end of November, keep pushing and make it through to the end. You get to be rewarded when it's all said and done!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
