Push a Button. Get Food.

Champaign's newest food delivery app

Push a Button. Get Food.

"Push a button. Get food."

Crunchbutton’s enticing slogan describes the basic purpose of the app, food delivery. This is how it works: you download the app from the app store on your phone, create an account or simply type in your current address, click the “Find Restaurants” button and choose from an amazing selection of restaurants. Once you decide which restaurant appeals to you most, the app provides various menu items that you may choose from. Once decided, you may pay with a credit card through the app or with cash upon delivery.

What makes this different from typical food delivery service, you may ask? Well, let me tell you. Many of the restaurants that Crunchbutton delivers from are ones that do not typically carry a delivery service. For example, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Dunkin Donuts and McDonald’s are among the choices of restaurants that you may order from.

Last week, a friend and I decided to try out the app after we had heard about it through other girls in our sorority. We ordered Panera Bread using Crunchbutton, and we were very impressed with the results! The food arrived in a little under 20 minutes, and the soup I ordered was still hot when it arrived. My friend also had a good experience customizing her order. The salad arrived in less than 20 minutes and with the correct customizations that she noted on the ordering page.

However, there are a few things that they don’t tell you until you start ordering. One being that you do need to order a minimum dollar amount before the order is eligible to be delivered. On the plus side though, the app saves your address, contact information and payment information, so that you do not have to re-enter it every time you order.

When speaking with Janjay Knowlden, an employee of Crunchbutton, he disclosed information about a day in the life of a delivery driver and what his driving shift entails. Knowlden states, “Well, they’re five hours long. No clocking in or anything, just be ready to go by the time the shift starts. When it does, I get a text whenever someone orders. I get what to buy from which restaurant, whether they are paying with card or cash, where they’re at and the phone number. I go buy the food and drive it to them. They pay me back. Wash, rinse and repeat.” Janjay also helps with advertising for the app via Facebook, and he tries to keep a strong presence to promote business.

If you are interested in seeing other restaurant options on Crunchbutton, suggestions are encouraged and you can send those inquiries to join@crunchbutton.com.

Also, for those of you who are less tech savvy and prefer to send orders by mail, Crunchbutton has an option for you. You can send in your food orders by mail to the address listed on their website, and they will deliver your food within one week of receiving the letter.

Let’s just say that once knowledge of this app spreads, the success of the company will be undeniable. Chipotle delivered is every student’s dream.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
