2. Have a signal among friends

People are crazy! Always have a plan and a signal for when someone is making you feel uncomfortable. The sooner you let your friend know the better!

3. Don't leave your cup unattended and cover as you mingle

Even the nice people slip into your drink, so your best option is don’t give them the opportunity and hold your solo cup close.

4. Carry keys

Because weapons are not allowed at clubs or on campus, your keys are the next best thing. Place on key in between each knuckle and if someone try to hurt you, go for the eyes, the groin, somewhere.

5. Do not leave with someone you don’t know

Sometimes we leave with a strange person and although that is your choice beware of living with someone. The safest bet is to go home alone.

6. Always have a way home

Simple. Make sure your ride is secured for the evening before going out and while out.

7. If walking home alone, let a friend or roommate know

8. Have SafeTrek downloaded on phone, or keep 911 on speed dial when walking alone

SafeTrek is an app that send the police your gps coordinates if you don’t enter a specific code and is very useful. It 3.99 and is helpful when you are traveling in a different counties and states. If you don’t want to pay 911 works almost as effectively.

You see something suspicious, don’t hesitate someone of authority (campus safety, bouncer, police)

10. Stay aware of your surroundings

If you are aware of your surroundings and people near you, it is easier to track down someone who attacked you or someone else. STAY VIGILANT!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
