This year is coming to a close, and it has been quite a wild ride. When I watch the news, I get really sad because it mostly talks about the horrible things going on in the world: war, murder, kidnapping, etc. A radio station that I listen to called Sunny 95 has a segment called "Tell Me Something Good." It is the highlight of my drive home most days. It also inspired me to write this article.

I interviewed some people around town and asked them to tell me something good that happened to them this year. The responses I got warmed my heart, and I wanted to share them with you.

1

"I got my first dog. I know that may seem silly, but I've always wanted one, and now that I live on my own I can have one. She brings me so much joy."

2

"I met my person. He's sweet, funny and doesn't judge me in any way. I know we're gonna make it."

3

"I moved to a new town a year ago, and this year I finally made some friends. We have game nights sometimes, and it's made living here away from my family so much more bearable."

4

"This year I solidified my main goal in life! I've been trying to find out my passion for as long as I can remember, and it hit me this year!"

5

"I got my lizard, Norbert! He's cute!"

6

"I began planning my wedding with the love of my life."

7

"I found my passion in life. I'm going to be a teacher, and I couldn't be more excited!"

8

"I moved out on my own. I love my independence."

9

"I left my toxic job. I was being sexually harassed, and when I told my boss, they told me to get over it."

10

"I learned a valuable life lesson: Just because your life isn't going in the order you planned doesn't mean it's a bad life."

11

"I learned to stand up for what I believe in."

12

"My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for some time. This year we finally got pregnant!"

I know this is only a handful of people, but I hope it brings you some hope in this negative world of ours. Little moments are so important but can be easily missed. Make sure to take a second each day this year and reflect on the special moments in your life. I wish all of you a happy new year and many special moments!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
