Dear PNMs,
When you are going through recruitment, we understand you are nervous. You have to understand that we all have been in your shoes before. We were all anxiously waiting to walk into the houses and talk to the sisters. We were all judging each house just like you will and we were all being ranked by each house just like you will be. We are chanting chants, singing songs, wearing matching outfits and smiling until our cheeks hurt, but we are loving it. We want you to love it, too. There are a few things we want you to know before you go through recruitment.
1. Please, don't ask us about the parties.
There are more important things than the parties.
2. Don't be rude.
Even if you don't like our house, then don't be rude to us because you never know where we'll meet again.
3. Don't talk about other houses with us.
We know what ADPi, Kappa Delta, Zeta and every other house on campus is like.
4. Please, don't think we are all stuck up.
There is more to us than our matching outfits and our chants.
5. Please understand we wear our letters with pride.
Our sisters mean everything to us and our sisterhood runs deeper than the deepest depths of the ocean.
6. Please don't ask me if there is a sister I don't like.
I love all of my sisters. I might not know them all personally, but I love them all.
7. Please understand we do more than crafts and sit around and gossip.
We also attend class and have jobs. Some of us are athletes and some of us are double majoring.
8. Please don't ask us which houses are top tier.
We are all part of Greek life and that means we all have to stick together and be friends.
9. Be yourself.
You will find the perfect house for you, but don't act like someone you're not to fit into a house you think you want. In the long run, you won't be as happy as you think.
Most importantly...
10. Enjoy the process!
Yes, it will be stressful and you will be tired. You will walk into houses sweating or it might rain, but you will be happy in the end!
The process is stressful. It is long and hard, and it is something you've never done before. However, it is something that will change your life. Not everyone sticks with it. Some girls only give a year. Most give a whole life time. This is your sisterhood -- you get what you want out of it. It will take what you have to give. It is everything that you want it to be. Enjoy it, we understand what it is like to be in your shoes. We've all been there at some point in time.
Love,
A Sister Who Found Her Happy Place
