An Open Letter To My Freshman Year Roommate

This One Goes To You

An Open Letter To My Freshman Year Roommate

Have you ever had that one roommate where you alwaysdreaded going into your room? Yeah, me too. That was my daily reaction, my first semester of college. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a sweet girl, but we were not meant to be roommates. I know that sounds super harsh, but I honestly do not mean it like that. We are civil now, but it was honestly a good thing to separate as roommates. I’m sure she would agree.

Moving on, I asked this girl in my pledge class to room with me second semester, and I am so thankful that she said yes. This girl is my absolute best friend, and I am sorry that I wasn’t in the room as much as I should have been. I do not regret deciding to room with you, though, because it was the best semester I have had so far.

Thank you for never judging me.

You have seen me at my absolute worst and my absolute best. Thank you for never judging my lifestyle, my endless amount of junk food eating habits, and my love for One Direction and Justin Bieber. I mean seriously, you loved it when I would lock you in the room and blast the same song over and over in our room.

Thank you for dealing with my PMS 24/7.

I had FOMO. End of story.

Thank you for always hanging out with me.

Hanging out could consist of laying in our beds all day watching HGTV, watching illegal movies on my sketchy laptop (Sorry WIU SECURE), late night cuddles, or late night runs to either Wally World or McDonald's. Lets be real, we probably went to both because who doesn't love spending their money on things we don't need?! That describes us in a nutshell.

Thank you for taking me everywhere.

Seriously, you took me everywhere last year. I'll make it up to you by letting you always have access to my fries. Hope that's enough. Even if it's not, I'll find a way to make it up to you.

Thanks for being a role model.

I look up to you all the time, and I don't think you notice that. You have impacted my life in more ways than I can explain. You are such a good role model to not only me, but other sisters and the Greek community.

Overall, Thanks for being you

!

Seriously. Don't ever change. You are perfect and I will love you forever. Expect to be a bridesmaid in my wedding if I ever find a man worth my time. I don't think you realize how much I appreciate you as one of my best friends, but also as my sister.

With Love,

Kaylee

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
