All of us love to take a break from all the tedious, bothersome or irrelevant things we must do daily just to uphold an acceptable physical image and be viewed as presentable by society. Personally, I could bare to skip a few days of makeup or fixing my hair and could care less if I go into public while looking like I just walked through a wind tunnel or got dressed in the dark. So I am a huge supporter and advocate of the month of November, and it's not because I love me some Turkey. I'm talking about "NO SHAVE NOVEMBER"!
Shortening my shower time or having thirty days free from self-inflicted battle wounds simply because me, water and one leg balancing acts do not mix well, just the mere thought of this makes me happy. Then realizing I am also raising awareness for every type of cancer, this makes me not only happy but completely ecstatic!
No Shave November is not just a get out shaving free card it is so so, much more. It is a month-long process to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and just let it grow and grow and grow like unwanted weeds in your beautiful rose garden. By doing so you donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming products to educate about cancer prevention, saving lives and support those fighting the battle. I don't just preach this I do donate!
No Shave November works side by side with world-renowned organizations:
- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
So far in just 2016 "No Shave November" has raised $1,361,284.00. This amount has been raised by 30,756 members, 2,039 teams, and 322 organizations.
I think the modern day mountain man movement is a much catchy name for my other favorite charity organization that's also active in November, MOVEMBER! The name really isn't important it's the purpose at hand. Movember starts the same day and time as NO SHAVE NOVEMBER. Starting at midnight Oct. 31st and goes all the way through to midnight on Nov. 30th. This is an awareness campaign focusing solely on men's health issues. Movember started in 2003 and at that point focused around the growing of only mustaches through the month of November by men, of course. Men would also campaign for donations and pledges for men's health research.
Now Movember just doesn't care where you grow that hair. It can be a mustache, simple beard, back hair, eyelash or eyebrow extensions all the way to the oh so gross nose hair. The weirder the place for your choice of hair growth the potential you'll have to raise more money. So many people will pay to see a man grow a unibrow or let those nose hair's tickle your lip. May sound strange, but in this case the stranger the better because strange places bring more Benjamin Franklin faces.
Some of the best, yet strangest hair growth ideas have raised nearly 40 million dollars toward research dollars.
