Retirement was a theme last week with the exception for Paul Ryan. He opted to keep his job instead.
1.Paul Ryan will be the speaker of the House. Again.
The House Republican conference re-elected Paul Ryan for the position of speaker of the House Tuesday, Nov. 15. Ryan ran un-opposed and was unanimously elected, according to a report from CNN.
This comes as somewhat of a surprise after an eventful first-year in the position where he disagreed with some of his fellow conservatives and the now president-elect Donald Trump.
CNN also reported that House Democrats have elected to do their leadership elections after Thanksgiving.
2. Diane Rehm retired from WAMU.
Diane Rehm said she worked in public radio for 37 years and now it is time to turn the work over to a younger individual, according to a report from NPR. Rehm hosted The Diane Rehm Show for WAMU, an NPR member station, before officially retired Wednesday.
The 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. time slot will be taken over by Joshua Johnson who will host a new show called 1A. Johnson also co-created and hosted Truth Be Told, according to NPR.
WAMU released a statement describing the content of the new show and it appears to cover a little bit of everything, from politics to pop culture.
3. James Clapper also retired.
James Clapper, director of national intelligence, officially submitted his letter of resignation Wednesday evening. CNN reported that those close to Clapper were aware he was resigning and he often told them exactly how many days he had left working.

4. The World Health Organization said Zika is no longer a global emergency.
The World Health Organization first claimed the Zika virus a state of emergency on February 1 this year, according to a report from The New York Times, but the organization updated the status of the virus Friday.
The organization’s advisory committee concerning the virus said is it an ongoing threat since it is a mosquito-borne disease. Mosquito-borne diseases follow seasonal fluctuations and are generally considered a constant concern.
5. Volkswagen announced the termination of 30,000 jobs.
The German car company announced Friday that it will be cutting jobs to offset the cost of an emissions scandal. CNN reported that the company is responsible for paying tens of billions of fines and compensation due to the scandal.
