10 New Year Resolutions You Should Give Up On Now

Everyone views the new year as a chance to start fresh, begin anew and start forming healthy habits. Whether it's hitting up the ridiculously cheap gym memberships or enrolling in a hot yoga class, you know this is your year and you are definitely going to stick to this resolution.

Last year's dedication to go jogging started off strong, but as the months continued your jogging turned into more of a light trot to the fridge. This time will absolutely be different, and you're going to hold yourself accountable. So while you fumble over the decision of whether to give up carbs or start making pottery I have found several to consider that can most definitely commit to.

1. You are not going to cancel the Netflix subscription and start being productive.

That is just not going to happen so sit down and get comfortable because we all know the only change you'll be making is from Season 1 to Season 2 of "Friends."

2. No matter how hard you try, you will still forget to turn off the straightener before you leave the house.

3. Your attempt to switch from coffee to something un-caffeinated will fail greatly don't even bother trying out that new tea in the pantry.

4. Look up recipes for new cleanses!

Any kind of green juice or something with cayenne will be perfect. Print it out. Throw it away. Cleanses are for Victoria Secret models and sad people.

5. I bet you think you're going to start washing your face after going out and not forgetting to wipe off your makeup before you fall asleep every night?

Yeah right. You're going to wake up with bronzer on your pillow and fake eyelashes on your cheek, get over it.

6. You are not going to stop eating fast food. It is close to impossible, so don't feel too guilty.

Sulk in the drive-through at Chick-fil-A I bet you'll feel better after a number one with Chick-fil-A sauce.

7. You aren't going to give up social media.

Everyone in this day and age is completely and totally addicted to their iPhones and laptops and every other piece of technology they can get their hands on. Go ahead girl, tweet that picture of a puppy, post that Facebook status, yeah, like that selfie on Instagram.

8. Sleep more and stress less.

I have to say I like the way this sounds, but I'm also pretty positive sleep more does not include waking up at 1 p.m. realizing you slept through all of your classes and stress less does not consist of putting your research paper off till the day it's due.

9. Saving more money is one of everyone's top priorities in the new year.

Now as much as I would like to believe in the willpower of not spending all of my money the second I earn it, I am 100 percent positive I will still single-handedly provide the necessary financial support for buy one get one drink specials at the local spots downtown.

10. You are not going to turn your hobby into a career.

I am so sorry to be the first to let you know that your freehand canvas paintings of dogs in costumes are not going to blossom into a prosperous occupation.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
