Never Have I Ever: Been Drunk In College

So, a question I hear often usually goes something along the lines of, "Are you sober?" Yes. I'm sober. In fact, I've been sober my entire college career...and I'm halfway done. I'll just give you a second to scoff, pray for me, roll your eyes, make fun of me, laugh or walk away from this article.

All of the above situations are real life responses I've received like, at least a hundred times in the past two years. I must think I'm better than you, right? I must be judging you right? I must be a lightweight, a prude, training to be a nun, or just a really big weirdo.

Ha, no, I'm none of those things, especially not a N.I.T. (nun in training) because I don't think my boyfriend would be cool with that (the whole married to Jesus thing), and I don't think a habit would flatter my curves.

I will applaud your drunken shenanigans, take really good pics of your night out for you (I'm the friend that cares enough to get the cute candids too), and I'll probably dance and laugh even harder than you. I'll be able to remind you of the funny stuff you said in the morning, and better yet, I'm not out to play Mom.

You wanna go 2007 Britney Spears on everyone at the bar tonight? Do you boo, I will be cheering you on from behind my cheese fries. Before I go on, let me reassure you:

College is fun for me, and I have a really, really good time.

Did I mention I'm also in a sorority?

Plot twist: I'm not miserable on the weekends — ever.

So, get to the point.

I'm 24/7 high energy. I'm basically a human chihuahua. I pre-game with coffee and I'm ready to be the life of da party.

I have a really good time, no matter where I am or how low my blood alcohol level is. As long as the DJ is *lit*

Don't crucify me, but I don't need to be drunk to have a good time.

Drinking in college isn't for me. It isn't my thing right now. But, if it is your thing, awesome. I don't care one way or the other. My wallet is happy, my waistline is (kinda) happy(ish)...(cheese fries don't help), and honestly I would rather eat a loaf of bread than face the carbs in beer. Try putting cheese and butter in your beer...totally not as good as bread, but whatever floats your goat.

To recap in case you've missed it: I have never, not once, not for a second actually been drunk in college. Yes, I will dance on the rail with you, I'll scream and dance and make a really big fool of myself, and yes, people will ask me if I'm drunk. But nope. I'm not. In fact, shocker — I have chosen to not be drunk, but that's my personal choice.

HMU next time you need a ride home from somewhere or need a super cute set of pics taken from a good, high angle...I got chu'. I'm also totally down to run you through a drive through on the way home. Not being drunk doesn't make me any weirder, and I promise I don't think I'm better than you.

This is just me, and I'm cool with that, and honestly, almost all the time other people are too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
