Netflix Shows You Should Be Watching This Summer
Huffington Post

You're back from college, looking forward to doing nothing and binging, binging, binging all the tv shows you can handle! Aside from the mainstream shows on Netflix like Orange is The New Black and Shameless. Here are a few Netflix originals that are not only impeccable in content, but provide different narratives present from mainstream television today.

1. House of Cards

Given the current political climate House of Cards provides a dramatized take on the inner workings of D.C. politics, with a backdrop of dark fantasies of how power can be used to manipulate the American government and its citizens. This show is chilling in some of its story lines, not to mention the parallels to the government we see today.

2. Chewing Gum

This one is for all my fellow awkward black girls out there. This UK comedy series tells the life of a woman named Tracy, who's trying to navigate life on a public housing estate full of sexual desire while living in a strict Christian and African household. The estate has a wide range of characters that bring something different to the table also adding to the hilarious events in Tracy's life.

3. Black Mirror

Three words: SAVE. THE. BEES. This crazy thriller, mystery, and just wild UK drama series tells the consequences that advanced technology can bring when it is extended beyond our wildest imaginations. The series tells stories of separate individuals each with their own different encounter with technology in their lives.

4. Easy

This one is for all my Chicagoans out there. Easy is a short Romantic Comedy series that explores different stories of couples in the city of Chicago. Each couple goes through different dynamics of different types of relationships. Its always cool watching series where you can actually visit some of the places in the show, so lookout for some cool spots you could visit in Chicago!

5. Dear White People

Having watched the movie before the series I wasn't sure about how good the series would be, but I was very wrong. The series takes place on a predominately white institution, in which a minority group of Black students are responding to a Black Face Party that took place on their campus. Each character provides an alternative view of what a black student may encounter while in college, especially amidst casual racism and prejudice. The series as a whole expands on the idea that black people are not a monolith and have diverse stories to tell. The series also discusses the various voices within the BLM movement and how that impacts each student differently in wanting to make a change.

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.
