If you would've told me all those years ago that I'd be writing this to you, I probably wouldn't have believed you... but as the years have passed and we have traveled anywhere from four minutes to 400 miles apart, it only seems like we grow closer, if that's possible. We don't see each other every day, or even every month... but when we do you wouldn't think that we've been apart for more than an hour, and that's how I know that you're my forever friend.
Dear Forever Friend,
We've had every opportunity in the books to fall apart and disappear out of one another's lives, but with every trial that we've faced, we came out on top-- probably laughing, and for that, thank you. Friendship, especially as adults is hard to maintain, but you never are. We never have to question where we are in one another's lives because time and distance will never be a barrier for our friendship.
You are the epitome of what a friend should be.
Thank you for the countless years of trouble, because nobody looks back and remembers the times when you played by the rules, and thank you for being the only other person I know who doesn't fear taking risks and living life a little too close to the edge at times.
We share the belief that life should be fun, while never turning away heavy conversation or discounting one another's heartaches, no matter how insignificant they typically are in a week.
From the days of conforming to society, and even more of rebelling against it, you have been my constant. With college graduation approaching faster than I'd like to think about, there are a lot of uneasy uncertainties, but I'm confident and thankful in knowing that you're not one of them. When I finally find a man to marry, I'll make sure he's you-approved and when we have kids, they'll call you "auntie."
Thank you for growing older with me, cheering me on with every success as well as failure, and most of all thank you for loving the weird human that I am.
Love,
Your Friend, Forever.
