The new country song "Biscuits" by Kacey Musgraves reveals some pretty valuable life lessons that everyone can benefit from hearing.
"Taking down your neighbor won't take you any higher
I burned my own damn finger poking someone else's fire
I've never gotten taller making someone else feel small
If you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all."
This is a lesson we all need to internalize. Keep your nose out of things that don't pertain to you. And the golden rule, treat others like you want to be treated.
"Nobody's perfect, we've all lost and we've all lied
Most of us have cheated, the rest of us have tried
The holiest of holies even slip from time to time
We've all got dirty laundry hanging on the line."
Stop pretending like you're better than everyone and admit you have flaws, like the rest of the human race. Everyone messes up and no one (I repeat, NO ONE) is perfect in this world. How boring would life be if we were?
"Pouring salt in my sugar won't make yours any sweeter
Pissing in my yard ain't gonna make yours any greener
And I wouldn't know about the rocks in your shoes
So I'll just do me and, honey, you can just do you."
Bringing others down to build yourself up is wrong and will get you nowhere in life. Also, the classic "Do you" is a pretty solid mantra to live by.
"Just hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy."
The chorus of this song is the best. With her quirky, country flare, Kacey explains that if you keep to yourself and mind your own business, you'll find that life is actually quite enjoyable when you aren't concerned with the lives of others.
Thank you, Kacey, for reminding us all that the simple things in life are the most important and if we all spent as much time worrying about ourselves, as we do other people, everyone would a lot happier.
