Essential oils have been used for thousands of years and for many purposes. From cleaning to relieving anxiety, they can virtually do it all! Each one is unique with its own medicinal properties that we would be silly not to utilize! The oils in this list are just the beginning when starting a journey into the world of essential oils as there are dozens to pick and choose from!

1. Rose

Rose is more than just a pretty flower! But the fact that it is beautiful and smells just as nice is one of the ways this essential oil is helpful. Smelling rose oil regularly has been proven to lower the occurrence of both depression and anxiety! Rose oil is also used to treat that annoying acne we all hate thanks to its antibacterial effects.

2. Tea Tree

Tea tree oil is known for its strong antibacterial effects! There are dozens of uses for this oil! Mix it with aloe vera, coconut milk, and another of your favorite essential oils (for smell) for a totally natural shampoo that treats dry scalp, clear dandruff, and can even get rid of pesky lice!

3. Frankincense

Next time your allergies are acting up try smelling a couple drops of Frankincense oil. It can relieve coughs and reduces the amount of phlegm in your lungs. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory so your nasal passages will get some relief too! Because of its anti-inflammatory effect, Frankincense can help out with conditions like arthritis, digestive diseases, and muscle aches.

4. Lavender

We've all had those nights that we just cannot seem to fall asleep. Sprinkle a few drops of essential lavender oil on your pillow to ease insomnia! Lavender is very soothing and is used to achieve a calm mood and reduce feelings of anxiety.

5. Cinnamon

Essential cinnamon oil has antimicrobial effects. This makes it the perfect oil to diffuse not only for a fresh scent but also for a cleaner quality of air! Another handy use for cinnamon oil is to freshen up bad breath! Put a couple drops in your mouth after a meal and you're good to go!

6. CBD (Cannabidiol)

CBD oil is naturally occurring in hemp/cannabis and has zero psychoactive properties making it completely legal in all 50 states. CBD oil is commonly used to treat insomnia, nausea, and so much more. Researchers have found that CBD oil suppresses the protein gene ID-1, making it harder for cancer cells to thrive! The benefits associated with this oil are virtually endless!

7. Patchouli

Patchouli oil has long been used to treat hair and skin problems such as chapped skin, eczema, and dry scalp. This oil can reduce the appearance of scars and has wound healing properties as well. Another fun use for patchouli oil is its aphrodisiac properties. Whip up your own "love potion" with a few drops of patchouli and rose oil!

8. Sandalwood

Life can get very busy and become stressful; luckily there are things like sandalwood essential oil to help with achieving mental clarity. Defusing this oil relaxes the mind, boosts memory and helps to attain an overall calm mood.

9. Ylang-Ylang

One of the oldest uses for this oil is its antidepressant abilities. It relieves chronic stress, anxiety, depression, all while inducing feelings of peace, hope, and joy! Diffusing Ylang-Ylang may calm nervous breakdowns and help with depression after a trauma.

You can find these oils and more at your local health food store or even places like Target and Walmart. I am sure your body will thank you for going the holistic and natural route!
