Well, you're finally a senior. Do you find yourself asking, "Where did the time go?" It feels like it was just yesterday that your parents dropped you off at campus for orientation week and said their not-so-sad goodbyes. You probably felt like the smallest of fishes in the biggest of ponds, but you're an upperclassman now and you have a bit of an emotional roller coaster ahead of you. Here are a couple of things to anticipate as you embark the "Senior Year Roller Coaster." It's fast so, hold on tight.
The first thing to expect as a senior is without a doubt SENIORITIS. If you have no clue what this is, then let me explain. According to Urban Dictionary, senioritis can be best explained as, "A crippling disease that strikes seniors. Symptoms include: laziness, an over-excessive wearing of athletic shirts, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and sweatshirts. Also features a lack of studying, repeated absences, and a generally dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as graduation."
You go into senior year thinking, "I GOT THIS," but when the midterm or final reviews come around you'll be looking like the girl in this gif:
The second thing to expect from your senior year is FINDING A JOB. That is probably the most obvious of all things to expect, but this is when reality starts to sink in and you realize you're an adult. You can no longer hide from this frightful fact.
The third thing to expect is DENIAL. You realize growing up isn't all it's cracked up to be and find yourself constantly praying for a time machine to take you back to your freshman year when life was easy breezy. Feeling nostalgic is normal just don't let it get the best of you.The fourth thing to expect is a PARTY. At this point, all of your friends have turned 21 and can (legally) go to bars/nightclubs and you know what that means...nothing but a good 'ol time. Is there a better time to party than now? You're a senior and graduation is around the corner so, live it up now.
The fifth thing to expect are GOODBYES. Not only to those you love, but to those you cannot wait to never, ever, ever see again. They say the friends you make in college are for a lifetime so, just know that your goodbye is really a "see you later."
I'll leave my fellow seniors with one piece of advice...make your last year as a college student worthwhile. These are supposed to be the best years of your life. Go out and make memories with your friends whether it be going out to eat, attending on-campus events, staying in and watching a movie, or whatever it may be. Just be sure you'll cherish them as you grow older.
