During the past nine months, Manhattan College sophomore, Ryan Quattromani, began building his dream -- to develop a nautical inspired clothing company called Seaworthy. Motivated by his New England upbringing, Seaworthy is a lifestyle clothing and apparel brand that embodies an adventurous and fun-loving life through preppy design. Quattromani founded the company in his hometown of Westerly, R.I., but mostly works at Manhattan College alongside other students.
Within the next few months, Seaworthy LLC will launch in a few select New England retailers as well as its impressive online storefront. For now, Quattromani will retail what he believes will become Seaworthy's signature bright seersucker hats. Future projects include socks and bow ties with preppy colors and motifs, all featuring the company's nautical ship's wheel logo.
Quattromani hopes to grow his business enough to one-day manufacture shirts, belts, and other apparel. At this point, Seaworthy is growing its social media presence and spreading the word about a brand ambassador program.
The Seaworthy brand ambassador is similar to the ones companies such as Vineyard Vines offers college students. When the Seaworthy website launches later in March, potential ambassadors can apply through an online application. If accepted, they are responsible for posting on social media and promoting the Seaworthy brand through various other tasks. Anyone on any college campus is able and encouraged to apply.
Quattromani believes style is about expressing who you are and the kind of life you want to live. He believes Seaworthy will provide customers with a unique opportunity since the preppy lifestyle brands are not as prominent in the New York area quite yet. This particular region does not offer a huge selection for those who enjoy that lifestyle. Aside from New York, Ryan is eager to release his brand in his hometown and neighboring communities in Rhode Island.
If there is one thing to take away from Ryan's experience in building Seaworthy, it is that anyone can accomplish their dreams with the necessary drive, motivation and desire to see it through. College is the time to start building what you want for your life, so go out there and get it!
