Live in Summer
Lukus Becker

Long days, sun shine, and the warmth of the sun. Summer is a beautiful time of the year to live life to the fullest. I am personally looking forward to everything I get to be apart of. From work, to running, to spending time with friends, everything makes my heart rush. The summer of 2017 is something I want to make memorable and lasting.

Spending the summer at home means returning to the farm life and interacting with so many animals. Daily dogs will run out the door with me to take on chores and spending time with the horses. Sure having to do chores twice a day feeding and caring for the animals is a duty but it is one that lets you work with loving animals that you have the option to ride at any point in the day. Other aspects of the farm also are difficult task such as doing hay, from cutting it in the field, to bailing it up and loading the hay into the barn. Its very simple to do now, with many years of experience but it still is taxing in a full day of work. I still find it rewarding though because it reminds me where I come from and where I want to get to as doing hay is not where I am going to settle in life.

Taking care of kids again this summer for my job is also something I look forward to doing a lot. It was super rewarding growing a relationship with so many kids and being challenged to help organize activities for them to do at the camp. It also helped to structure my summer days when the morning was built around an 8-12 job along with some extra hours as a lifeguard. The lifeguard hours also really helped me to think about life and reflect on where I am. Might have been very boring at times but was way more helpful then I imagined to have a job I could think at.

Wanderlust. I am so excited to travel this summer and explore new places, making memories where I go. I have big plans this summer for travel and a desire to make the most of it. I want to travel to long Island, the Adirondacks, to Sylvan Beach, to the Boilermaker, and to where ever my car will take me. Every part of a trip is amazing, from the travel to get there, to immersing yourself in where you are and sharing the experience with others or just yourself. I hope to document these memories as the summer passes along.

Finally I would like to find myself a little more this summer. I have changed a lot since last summer due to college opening my eyes a bit and I know I haven't sorted everything out yet. So before I head into another stressful year at college I would like to know myself better or find out what I am capable of.

Here's to Summer 2017!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
