A Thank You Letter To The Company I Interned For
Kate Larsen

Dear Company I Interned For,

As I’m reflecting on this past year and a half interning with you, I’m realizing how lucky I got to experience working at such an amazing company. This past year and a half has taught me so much and I feel as if I’ve grown into an even better version of myself. There are so many things you’ve given me that I’m thankful for and I wanted to express my thankfulness.

Thank you for seeing something in me. Even though I was a freshman who didn’t have much experience, you believed in me. You gave me the opportunity to get experienced. I remember working through my first tough issue. You saw that I was eager to learn and allowed me to help problem solve and attend your discussion meetings. You helped make me the person I am today.

Thank you for trusting in me. While I was still new to the internship, you gave me a lot of responsibility and I’m happy you did. When I took on my first big project, you trusted that I would get it done and I did. I worked through some tough problems, learned to compromise, and felt accomplished when it was all said and done.

Thank you for connecting me with so many intelligent people. The amount of connections I have now has grown tremendously compared to last year. I’ve met people from different departments, even different companies. I now have people I can reach out to for lunch, if I have questions, and even for future job opportunities. I’ve learned how important networking is and am excited to continue growing my connections in the years to come.

Thank you for giving me new experiences. Sitting in on meetings with the executives and CEO were a highlight of my internship. I felt like I was a part of something and that I mattered. Knowing that I was sitting in on discussions that would affect so many people was intimating but very insightful. I also loved being able to shadow different departments. That helped me in figuring out my interests and what I want in a career.

Most of all, thank you for welcoming me and making me feel at home. I remember being so nervous the first day that I walked into human resources. I had no idea what to expect and how much I’d learn. You showed me what it’s like to enjoy and actually want to go into work each day. I now know what I want in a future career and that I can truly fit into a company’s culture.

While I am sad to leave such a great company, I’m grateful for the time I did get. I will bring everything I learned to my next internship and eventually my job. You not only gave me the skills I needed to succeed, but the motivation to set goals and become a better person. I’ll remember all that you’ve done for me. Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Intern

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
