11 Things I've Learned From Being An Aunt

Little "Nibblings" are the best.

11 Things I've Learned From Being An Aunt
Amanda Davidson

I have only been an aunt four years but there have been several things I have learned by being an aunt to 5 nieces and nephews. It has honestly been the best experience of my life and I would never change this experience for the world. My "niblings" have taught me so much and I love them with all I have. Even though my oldest nibbling is only four years old, it has honestly been the craziest time of my life, and I can't wait to watch them grow up.

1. You had no patience before being an aunt.

My patience has been tested and stretched tenfold since becoming an Aunt.

2. Little smiles get away with almost everything.

You will be tempted to give them anything they want, and most of the time you will.

4. Niece and Nephew kisses are the best.

There is nothing that makes you feel better than a kiss on the cheek from the little one in your life.

5. You may not want to have kids too near in the future.

Sometimes you can't deal with the little ones and it will question all of your thoughts about having kids at all.

6. You really want kids some day.

After you get over your emotional distress about not wanting to have kids one day, you realize that kids are not actually that bad and you might want them someday... in the far future.

7. There is actually enough love in your heart to love all of your nieces and nephews equally

After your first nibbling you might not think you could love the second to-be-born nibbling as much as you do the first nibbling, but you do, and the third nibbling and the fourth and so forth.

8. You are super protective of your nibblings.

Do not touch my nibblings or I will almost get as protective of them as their mothers. You better run because I'm going to get my revenge.

9. Nibbling cuddles are the best.

Them wanting you instead of mommy or daddy is actually the best.

10. You carry around candy and snacks for the kiddos if you ever go out anywhere with them.

You're hungry? Ok! I have 10 granola bars and a box of fruit loops, and a box of Cheeseits. I also have a bag of Dum-Dums and Tootsie Rolls.

11. Pictures/selfies with little kids always get the most likes on social media.

Its a fact, plain and simple.

I love my nibblings, I spend a lot of money on them and love seeing them. These are only a few things that you learn when being an aunt. I've only been an aunt for a few years so there are probably a lot more that I have not learned yet. I am so excited to learn them and to watch them grow up and experience new adventures with them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
