The Things You Miss About MVL After You Leave
MVL

Whether you're a current student or have already graduated, you can't help but love these 22 things and will probably miss them after you leave.

1. Mr. Hermanson’s choir speeches

We were incredibly blessed to have you too.

2. Homecoming Dress Up Days

There aren't very many opportunities to dress this crazy in college.

3. Having the Senior Farewell Dance outside

Best dance of the year.

4. Kevin.

If only someone would be there to tell me "get to class" every morning.

5. The student section

No one does the roller-coaster cheer like MVL.

6. Being best friends with all of your teachers

You're supposed to act professional with your professors....and that's no fun.

7. Having friends in every class

You actually have to be nice to strangers in college.

8. Dessert Club/MVL cookies and donuts

EAT THEM WHILE YOU STILL CAN

10. The click-clack of Mr. Plath’s shoes

"INCOMING"

11. Mr. Morgan’s tracksuits

He inspired my entire college wardrobe.

12. The Veteran's Day program

Something you may not be grateful for until it's gone.

13. Lyceums for Spring Fever and Homecoming

Shoutout to Stud Co for always making Spring Fever and Homecoming some of everyone's favorite high school memories!

14. Our amazing band

I took for granted all of the incredibly talented musicians.

15. Homeroom

Friday homeroom was always looked forward to.

16. Seniors giving Chapel

I promise we were more interested in their message than this picture depicts.

17. Getting to eat lunch outside

Even if you got attacked by hundreds of wasps.

18. Having Study Hall with Mrs. Wong

Doesn't that smile just brighten your day?

19. Powderpuff

It's always fun watching the Seniors cream the Freshmen (or the other way around).

20. Cinco de Mayo Party

Probably the weirdest tradition at MVL, but definitely one of the best.

21. After Prom

It's basically the best sleepover party you'll ever go to.

22. Spanish Food Days

No homework and you get to listen to Shakira.

As you can see, MVL is a pretty special place. There are a lot of examples of why it's so unique...these are just a few personal favorites. Take time to appreciate your friends, teachers, classes, and overall experience at MVL. It's one you'll never forget!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
