Many know Jaycob Curlee as the 18-year-old season 9 America's Got Talent (AGT) semi-finalist from Daphne, Alabama, who stole the judges and America's hearts when he sang "Waiting on the World To Change" by John Mayer.
Now almost two years after AGT, Curlee has dropped his first album entitled "Things I Never Said" and has plans for the future.
Since AGT ended, Curlee compared his new life to the same feeling of "a kid waking up on Christmas morning." It was only recently that Curlee was just an 18-year-old playing guitar in his bedroom in Alabama. He has performed a few concerts in areas close to home and as far as California; he is hopping to perform at colleges around the country and give his fans what they want.
"Things I Never Said" dropped Sunday, July 25th around noon and only a few hours after it's release the album made it's way to #10 on iTunes. Curlee said throughout the interview he has "God to thank for it all."
When asked why he decided to entitle the album "Things I Never Said", he explained that "sometimes music says exactly what I'm trying to say." He added that with this album he was able to write and sing his own music that expressed the things he didn't get to say during his time on AGT and to his fans who have been there with him from the start.
In fact Curlee appreciates his fans so much that any who pre-ordered the album before it's release date received a personal thank you letter and autograph from Curlee himself along with the album.
"My fans have been so loyal, especially since America's Got Talent ended" Curlee said. "It's those fans who I wanted to give them something for sticking around all this time. I wouldn't be here or be able to do shows without them."
Many fans have been inspired by Curlee, not just for his music, but from going through the foster care system and not giving up on his dream to be the best that he could be. The positive response from fans and being adopted by his wonderful parents, inspired a few songs on the album such as "Here For You" and "Hometown Hero".
When asked what inspired his love for singing and songwriting, he explained that when he was growing up he sang in the choir at his church. He originally picked up the guitar during his freshman year of high school to hopefully start picking up girls, but in the end Curlee fell in love with music because it's so universal.
Curlee's faith in God has also continued to inspire him with his music and future plans.
"You don't really realize how much God influences your life until you've seen how far you've come," Curlee said. "America's Got Talent, that was a blessing, meeting my producer Jonathan who produced my album for free, that was another blessing....I owe it all to God."
One of his proudest moments since dropping the album is seeing fans tweet at him with his lyrics.
"There isn't anything better than my fans singing my lyrics and tweeting them at me," he said.
Curlee hopes that with this album he can continue to remind his fans that they are all in this together. He says if there's any message he wants his fans to get from the album it's "let's do this together."
In six months, Curlee hopes to have another single out and by January hopefully another album to go with it. He reiterates that he is thankful for all of his fans, friends, and family for supporting him through it all from the start and to be on the look out for more.
