15 Inspirational Quotes To Get You Through Finals
Tom Beetz

I love words. I love using words (I've been told by some I am quite loquacious), but most of the time more gifted humans have already eloquently expressed what I want to express. That, or they offer inspiration that I come to rely on.

So, it probably comes to no one’s surprise that I am one of those people who keeps a journal of favorite quotes. With finals fast approaching, here are some quotes—straight outta my journal—I’d like to share with you to help you through this last stretch.

First, make yourself a cup of tea, because…

“Everyone deserves tea.”—Jane Bennet, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

And remember:

“Beyoncé wasn’t built in a day”—Unknown

“Those who move forward with a happy spirit will find that things always work out.”—Gordon B Hinckley

“Whether or not you can never become great at something, you can always become better at it.”—Neil deGrasse Tyson

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.”—BB King

Your grades are not as important as you are:

“I think people have forgotten that education is supposed to be a tool to help you on your way to greatness, not the definition of how great you are.”—A M M Taylor

You are young, so you don’t have to have it all together.

“At 23, JK Rowling was broke. Tina Fey was working at the YMCA. Oprah had just gotten fined from her first job as a TV reporter and Walt Disney had declared bankruptcy.”—Heidi Priebe

“You’re only human. You don’t have to have it together every minute of every day.”—Anne Hathaway

Don’t forget that before you’re a student, you’re a person.

“You are valuable because you exist, not because of what you do or what you have done, but simply because you are.”—Max Lucado

“No matter how your day is going, you are growing. Repeat to yourself ‘I am growing. I am learning. I am being. I am. That is enough.’” [x]

“If I’m worth anything later, I am worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is a grass in the beginning”—Vincent Van Gogh

And because I am a singer, I have to share this one:

“A Reminder…
You are important
Your voice is special
There is no one else in the world with you voice
If you sing a note wrong it is not the end of the world
Mistakes make us human
Never be afraid to feel
You are important
You are special
Our profession can sometimes push negativity onto us and I just want you to know that in the midst of all that you are important.”—thevocalmajorworld

“I’ve survived a lot of things, and I’ll probably survive this.”—JD Salinger

And know that no matter what happens…

“Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it yet.”—LM Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

“Wake up early tomorrow. Eat a good breakfast. Do your hair and make-up and put on a kickass outfit. Buy your cup of coffee and enjoy every sip of it. Go to work, make that money, and learn something new in the process. Nourish. Grow. Inspire. Self-destruction is not an option. And let every choice you make be a brick in the foundation of rebuilding yourself.”—runningmandz

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
