I Got It From My Momma

Thank You For Everything

According to Urban Dictionary, mom is defined as the one who loves you unconditionally from birth, the one who puts her kids before herself, and the one you can always count on before anyone else. I have to agree with this definition. When I decided to write a piece on my mom, I knew it would be somewhat difficult, because my mom is so incredible that she cannot be described in only a few words. However, I'm going to try. Somehow I was lucky enough to receive some of her amazing qualities. And she has many of them...

1. My mom is the strongest person I know.

I have seen my mom carry her head high regardless of outside factors that have the potential to bring her down. She is resilient. Unkind words roll of her shoulders because she knows her worth. I have seen her smile through tears and laugh without a care in the world; I think it’s admirable.

2. Her creativity flows out effortlessly.

Owning your own gift shop has its perks. However, the artistic ability was already there. My mom is the most creative person I know and she makes it look so easy. I'm left in awe all the time at her beautiful creations. It's to the point where she thinks I'm lying when I say everything looks good. BUT IT DOES.

3. She is beautiful, inside and out.

When my mom smiles it makes everyone around her do the same. She has a warm presence about her that makes you want to give her a hug, or multiple ones. She is always dressed to the nines, with lipstick intact. Her heart is just as beautiful, which can be seen in her daily actions.

4. Her kindness is given so freely.

When people come to her and ask her for a favor she will do it without hesitating. The task will also be done in a time efficient manner...she's that good. My mom would do anything for anyone, and she has many times.

5. She is classy and sassy.

I find it hilarious how someone with so much class can hold so much sass. This is my favorite quality I inherited. My mom will speak with gentleness and care, but it will most likely be followed up with a joke or a smart remark. What can I say, she knows she's fabulous.

6. My mom remains optimistic, no matter what happens.

If I'm having a bad day, my mom is there to remind me that tomorrow will be better. I need that optimism in my life. She doesn't believe in a bad life, as life is what you make it. She also doesn't believe in bad attitudes, so you better be in a good mood at least most of the time!

Happy Mother's Day, Momma!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
