As the “Phineas and Ferb” theme song put it best, “There’s 104 days of summer vacation and school comes along just to end it so the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend it.” I don’t know if I believe that there are 104 days in summer vacation, but you get the gist. Here’s a list of fun things to do, created with the hope that it prevents a few boring summer days.
Go to a baseball game.
"How about them (insert your local team’s name here)? I hear they might win a few games this year." I'm not sure about your baseball team, but I've been hearing that the Mariners "might win a few games this year" every year and I've pretty much given up hope.Go swimming.
And by this I mean jump into the water once, and then sit on a floatie for a while.
Have a picnic.
Sit outside with your friends and food and enjoy a beautiful summer day.
Fly a kite.
Bonus points if you have a picnic and fly a kite.`
Watch an outdoor movie.
What could be more fun than watching a movie on a huge screen outside with a hundred strangers? Pro-tip: Make sure to bring snacks, blankets and comfy lawn chairs.
Have a campfire.
The best way to make s’mores. And if you don’t eat s’mores in the summer, when will you eat them?
Go camping (if only for one day).
If you’re a camping novice, like me, I really suggest the one-day camping trip. That way, there’s not too much time for things to go horribly wrong. If you end up forgetting some food it won’t matter that much and overall your expectations will be pretty low!
Go hiking.
Go out and experience some good old fashioned nature.
Go kayaking or canoeing.
Really what is the difference between a kayak and canoe? Either type of boat achieves the same effect.
(Look at how much fun these people are having.)
Go to a farmer's market.
There is so much good food sold at Farmer's Markets and during the summer fresh peaches are the best. If I could I would go to a Farmers Market every day during the summer.
Make your family take you out to eat.
This way you can eat yummy and not have to pay for it! Also chances are your family will appreciate that you want to spend more time with them.
Watch a sunrise.
Enough said.
Watch a sunset.
Yeah, it’s pretty similar to a sunrise, but chances are that you’re going to be awake at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. for the sunset. Who really wants to get up at 5 a.m. to see pretty much the same thing.
Find a lighthouse.
I don’t care how far away it is. Find it. Go to it. And definitely definitely take a funny leaning picture next to it.
Do something touristy.
Do something in your hometown that only tourists do. It’ll be fun and weird and you’ll know everything the tourists don’t so you can also get a nice self-esteem boost.
Go on a road trip.
It doesn’t have to be far. Drive for a few hours with friends and go somewhere new for a day: maybe a new town, a new hike, a new beach. Even if the place you go sucks half the fun will be driving with your friends.
Side note: If none of these interest you, consider watching some old "Phineas and Ferb" episodes for some inspiration. They seem to have their summers organized well.
