Apple Of My I

A glimpse into the life of a millennial.

Apple Of My I

Stop right now and answer this question, where is your cell phone? I think it is safe to say that your phone is merely just feet away. That is if you are not currently already on it. Today we live in a world where we have become completely dependent on our phones. Our phones have become our fifth limb, our safety blanket, our essential for life. And here are just a few of the things that we simply could not even imagine living without in our 'Apple' state of mind.

GPS:

Some of us were born with the God given gift of a sense of direction. While for others of us it doesn't come that easy. That is when our handy dandy GPS comes in. I don't know about you, but I constantly rely on mine. I even talk back to the voice as if she was real. I like to think of her as my own guardian angel, constantly guiding me through life.

Alarm Clocks:

Everyone knows that one person who has to set an alarm every 5 minutes in order to make sure they get up in time for class or work. I am the definition of that person. I will forever be thankful for the infinite alarms that Apple has provided me with always starting my day off right.

Texting/calling:

This one seems obvious but you have no idea how much you are actually in constant contact with people until you no longer have the ability. Either you are making dinner plans, asking your best friend if she saw the latest Grey's Anatomy or asking the cute guy from Math if he knows what the homework is. #URgr8 #ttyl #ily

Camera:

They say a pictures worth a thousand words. If that's true then your phone is probably worth a billion because it is full of pictures from every moment of your life. Every occasion has to be documented with the perfect picture captured by your cell phone only to be posted later. I mean come on, pics or it didn't happen right?

Social Media:

@Princetongirl + @Nomad609=tru<3 Social Media has become the new normal for our generation. We are constantly thinking of new ways to get more likes on Instagram, sharing videos on Facebook that literally make us laugh out loud and tweeting celebrities with the little blue check marks next to their names. Social media provides constant entertainment. It offers a solace during those awkward silences or the boring moments at school while simultaneously keeping us up to date on all things "cool."

Siri:

Last but surely not least, we can't forget about Siri. Siri is the mom that never leaves your side and the friend you can't live without. Siri answers all of your questions no matter the day or time. You can even just talk to her if you're bored. Siri does it all, and our life would be so much duller without her.

I think it's safe to say that we all love our phones. We literally are with it from the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep. I don't see that changing anytime soon, do you?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
