Is Christmas Becoming A Pain Rather Than A Time Of Joy?

And if so, how can we fix this?

The season of Christmas could easily be considered the most stressful and the most rewarding of the year. There are family dinners, parties, gifts, flights, weather, travel, even meeting family members we have not seen in years; and with all of this running through our mind all at once, how are we suppose to stay completely sane?

The answer, I am afraid to say, is not a simple sentence that will magically make the entire holiday stress disappear. It is rather a series of steps and ideas that truly make the holidays a special time to remember.

Step 1 - Remember Why You're There

It's very easy to forget the "holiday spirit" and be taken by the "shopping spirit." There is a valid side to the shopping and store hunting but it can't overrule the entire holiday. Time spent with family is one of the most rewarding and most remembered part of the holiday season.

There is always the one family member that does not agree with you in almost every single thing that comes out of your mouth or a couple of relatives that have arguments and problems who choose to revisit and potentially ruin a family dinner. Interesting enough how at 11:59 p.m. on December 24, everything is forgotten and hugs and kisses take over the arguments.

Life is short, and family is a privilege... don't lose it.

Step 2 - Keep A Smile, No Matter What

Stress will occur during this holiday season — and what better way to welcome stress than with a smile! Stress and happiness are passed on by how we express ourselves. When someone gets mad at us for something we quickly get on a defensive side and begin to start an argument and the fight never ends. Now if we present a smile in all situations, the anger is cut off immediately and you even change the expression of the person approaching you.

It is very important to have a constant peaceful state of mind since the holidays and all of its baggage can be a lot but is totally worth the reward.

Step 3 - Don't Be Afraid To Ask For Help

With all the Christmas time offers, we seem responsible for making sure that everyone leaves your house feeling amazing and we put all that responsibility on our shoulders rather than doing the simple thing: ask for help!

Remember not to over stress yourself and to simply ask for assistance to whoever you trust the most.

Just enjoy your holiday and truly appreciate what you have in life, because whatever life you have now is priceless in its own way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
