Mondays suck. Plain and simple. One second you’re living up your weekend with friends and family, having a grand ole time and then suddenly BAM Monday morning hits you in the face like a ton of bricks. We grumble and groan about how tired we are, or how much work we have left to do, or how much we’d rather be doing anything else, because there is nothing good about Mondays.
Or is there?
The world is a beautiful, bright place. There’s good in it, lots of it actually. It’s the little things that make life wonderful, like a warm cup of tea or a lazy summer night. The things we take for granted are the ones that make Mondays wonderful.
- The crunch of fresh snow
- Putting on warm clothes, fresh out of the dryer
- Singing. Singing loudly
- Waking up early and realizing you still have hours to sleep
- Cheesy pick-up lines
- When you make a reference to a movie and someone gets it
- Finding money in the pockets of old jeans
- A good cup of coffee
- Puppies
- Popping bubble wrap
- This thought: there’s something that you can do better than anyone else in the world
- Nutella
- Riding a swing again
- Winning a scratch off lottery ticket
- This thought: somewhere in the world, a new mom is gazing at her newborn baby
- Mini marshmallows
- Baby elephants
- Fitting everything perfectly
- A mother’s hug
- When your dog cuddles you when you’re upset
- An unexpected compliment
- The smell of books
- Getting into a bed with fresh sheets
- Catching fireflies
- Taking your bra off after a long day
- Airport reunions: bear hugs, long-awaited kisses, happy tears
- Peeling glue off of your hands
- Long weekends (Thank you MLK)
- Taking your shoes off after a long day
- Fuzzy blankets
- The trailers before the actual movie
- Feeling good after you’ve eaten healthy all day
- The dessert you eat to reward yourself for a day of clean eating
- Waking up Christmas morning
- Hearing your favorite song on the radio
- Glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts
- Fuzzy socks
- Chocolate chip cookies, fresh out of the oven
- The first snow fall of winter
- Finishing a tube of Chapstick
- Cuddling
- Driving with the windows down in summer
- Fireworks
- That first morning stretch
- Jumping in puddles on rainy days
- A full tank of gas
- Going out of your way to crunch autumn leaves
- A sunny day at the beach
- A cold shower on the sunburn you received from the day at the beach
- Changing out of jeans and into sweats
- Spontaneous day trips
- TOUCHDOWN!!
- The way your dog greets you when you get home
- Seeing a shooting star
- Acing an important test
- Hearing “I’m proud of you”
- Dancing in the ktichen
- Pumping gas and ending on an even amount
- Licking the spoon after you bake
- Fresh flowers on the kitchen table
- Sunshine
- Olive Garden breadsticks
- A good jog
- Getting a well-deserved promotion
- Opening the oven before the time goes off
- Hearing “I love you”
- This thought: Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward
So in the end, if we opened our eyes to the small things, I think we’d realize that Mondays aren’t so bad after all.
