Hailee Steinfeld: The Next Big Thing

So many actors and actresses nowadays are double or even triple threats, skilled in singing, dancing and acting. Hailee Steinfeld not only is not only talented at singing and acting, but she has also done some modeling. Her acting career began back in 2008 when she was just 8-years-old. She starred in a few shorts and on a few shows, only appearing in one episode. It wasn’t until 2010 where she got her big break.

Hailee was cast as one of the main characters of the 2010 movie "True Grit". Hailee starred as 14-year old-Mattie Ross. "True Grit" is about the murder of Tom Chaney, Mattie's dad. Mattie then sets out to find the person who killed her father. She hires Rooster Cogburn, Jeff Bridges's character, to help her with the search for the killer. The two end up being joined by Texas Ranger LaBaoeuf, played by Matt Damon. The three of them all have their “grit” tested while facing danger. This movie was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2011. One of the awards that the movie was nominated for was for Best Supporting Actress for Hailee’s performance in the movie.

Her next role in a movie was not as big as her role in "True Grit" but it was still significant. In the 2013 film "Begin Again," she played the daughter of Mark Ruffalo's character, a record label executive. Maroon 5’s Adam Levine played Dan, a songwriter. Violet, Hailee’s character, is encouraged by Gretta, Kiera Knightly’s character, to play her guitar on Dan’s upcoming album. This film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song for the song "Lost Stars" by Adam Levine.

Her latest acting achievement, and the reason most people know who Hailee Steinfeld is, was her role of Emily, the new Bella, in "Pitch Perfect 2." She got to show off her voice in this movie. Her "original song" that she sang in the movie was "Flashlight" by Jessie J. She stole so many hearts, not only with her acting skills but her voice as well. In this movie, Hailee is the new girl who ends up getting the spotlight in the International competition. "Pitch Perfect 2" won best soundtrack at the American Music Awards. The movie also won best movie comedy, best movie actor and actress in a comedy, best movie chemistry and best movie hissy fit at the Teen Choice awards.

Recently, Hailee has been put back in the spotlight, but this time it is not for acting. She released a single titled "Love Myself" from her EP Haiz. Currently, her single is #67 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. This song has been on the charts for fourteen weeks now and the highest position this song hit was #30. Hailee Steinfeld was on fire in 2015, being part of a big hit movie and having her first single on the radio. Wonder what she will accomplish in 2016.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
