We are constantly bombarded by news and media, between the radio, TV, and of course, our smartphones, it can be difficult to escape the constant stream of news. Unfortunately, the majority of this news is about sex scandals, deaths, murders, and scary presidential candidates. Although it is important to be aware of the world around you, sometimes it’s nice to hear some good news and focus on the positive. Here’s a list of some good news from the past week.
1. Tiny Houses in Detroit
Tiny houses are being built in Detroit by Cass Community Social Services to help combat homelessness. They plan on building 25 houses that have rent-to-own leases. Many of the tenants are expected to be seniors and college students.

2. Emission Free Train
Recently unveiled at the InnoTrans, a railway trade fair, was the Coradia iLint, the world’s first emission-free passenger train. The train is stationed in Saxony, Germany and will start running in December 2017.

3. Northern Lights in the South
Due to a solar storm increasing the number of solar particles entering Earth’s atmosphere, the aurora borealis, or northern lights, were visible in much more parts of the world.

4. Cat Rapper
Dwayne Molock, also known as rapper iAmMoshow, writes songs about how much he loves his cats, and how you should love your cats too. His songs entitled Cat Emotions, CatNip, and Cats and Christmas, and much more are all posted on his YouTube channel. Molock claims to get inspiration from cat ladies and advocates against the declawing of cats.

5. Big-Headed Presidents
After a failure to create an open-air museum, 43 giant busts of US Presidents sit on Howard Hankins’ family farm in Croaker, Virginia. The statues are broken and crumbling, but it is still quite a sight to see. Hankins helped build the museum and hopes to rebuild it with the help of a few local governments.

6. Cubs Win!
In a 10th inning, rain-delayed game the Chicago Cubs win the World Series for the first time since 1908. The final score was 8-7 against the Cleveland Indians. The city of Chicago held a rally and parade on Nov. 4 after the win. The event was so big that it got ranked as the 7th largest gathering of people in human history with 5 million people in attendance.
