I've always been one of those people who loves to be on a schedule. I'm lost during the summer, unless I'm working, but even then I'm a little lost. The world is a busy place, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
Even in high school, I was constantly involved in something. I tutored for Spanish Honors Society and for National Honors Society, I was in choir, I took acting classes during my lunch hour, I had rehearsals for plays and musicals, and I went to countless meetings every week. But I loved every minute of it, despite my sometimes late-night, coffee-induced homework sessions.
Continuing into college, I'm still one of those people who are busy for most of the day. Now that I'm in college, time management is much more important; I have a job, regularly take 18 semester hours, and hold several leadership positions around campus. Staying busy gives me something to do, helps me be productive, and keeps me less stressed.
I'm not as busy as I once was, but I still spend a lot of my time on campus sitting in class, working, attending meetings, or just studying. I've learned not to over-exert myself like I once did, but to choose what's most important to me and stick with it.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, stay busy. College is an experience, so experience everything that you want to. Take chances on student orgs that you normally wouldn't go for. Take a class that interests you, even if it's a little extra work. Go the extra mile on your homework and projects.
If there's one thing I've learned over the past few years, it's that keeping busy helps me stay on top of all of my work. Although I get stressed out sometimes, I'm able to keep everything together because I know I have it on my schedule.
Truth be told, I'd be lost if I didn't have a schedule to follow or if I wasn't busy. It's nice to know that I can always rely on having something to do during my day, that I know where I have to go and when I have to be there.
Through always being busy, a great lesson I've learned is to make time for yourself. Take a power nap. Watch some Netflix and snack on some unhealthy food. You don't always have to be doing something (even though that is the basic definition of being busy), even if you're running around for the rest of the day.
If there is any advice I would give to people who want to be more productive, it would be to get a little busier. Try some new student orgs, get a new job, meet more people to study with or hang out with. But, always remember to make time for relaxation and rest.
