Going To The Zoo

It's summer time, and you are probably bored out of your mind. Here is an idea, go to the Zoo! Zoos are my favorite place to go; you can people watch, animal watch, get your face painted, or just be a kid again looking at all the animals. Having a list of things you want to do is essential. Even if it isn’t written down anywhere and it’s just what you are telling yourself you want to see first, here are some things that you can do to help get your list started!

1. Before you even leave your house, PACK A BAG.
It doesn’t have to be like a duffel bag, just something that can hold some granola bars, fruit snacks and a selfie stick; you know, the essentials.

2. Bring 51 cents.
As a child, passing one of those penny presses and being told that you couldn’t get one was heartbreaking. Release your inner childhood dream and get yourself a penny with an animal pressed on it.

3. SUNSCREEN.

Seriously, you don’t want to look like Mr. Crabs when he takes his shell off. Believe me I get it, but please put on some SPF 15 so you don’t look like that tourist off "Lilo and Stitch". It’s no joke, you will be spending so much time outside, so you need to protect yourself in all ways possible.

4. Drink plenty of water.
Seriously, it’s not rocket science. If you are spending a long amount of time outside, you need to replace what you are sweating out. Going back to the first thing on the list, put a bottle in your bag that you can fill during the day.

5. Pose for pictures!

How will anyone even know you went anywhere? Have fun with it! Be creative and try to start a new trend; who knows, you might start the next big trend across the nation!

6. Ride the carousel.

You will feel so young and carefree, it’s like you lose the past ten years every single time your horse goes up and down. Yes people will judge you, but honestly who cares? If I were not to do something every time someone might look at me funny, I honestly wouldn’t even go outside most days.

7. Take pictures of the animals!

It’s why you came to the zoo! Don’t leave empty handed without that picture of your favorite fuzzy friend! I mean, you did pay a lot of money to see the animals, why not take a picture, it will last longer.

Now, this is also a "don’t" list as well, which should be common sense for most people, but yet here I am:

DO NOT be obnoxious with your friends.
I get it, you are having a good time with your friends, you are going to be loud. PLEASE remember that there are families trying to enjoy their day as well, so try to watch your mouth.

DO NOT litter!
Seriously. Don’t do it. What made you think that that would be a good idea? What if your trash falls into an exhibit with an animal? THINK OF THE ANIMALS.

DO NOT CUSS IN FRONT OF CHILDREN.
I do not care what that child has already heard or what they will hear. Seriously don’t. Please be aware of your surroundings.

I hope that this is a helpful guide when you head to whatever zoo that you call home!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
