God's Promises To Us

What to remember Freshman Year

God's Promises To Us

1. Don't give up, it will get better

During the first few weeks of my freshman year I was becoming anxious and nervous because I knew that this was going to be the next four years of my life. Studying all the time, working when I wasn't studying and having absolutely no social life: welcome to college. However, even in this very stressful time I knew to trust God and not to quit. I was at this school for a reason and if I had decided to drop it all what would be different? Would I have more time to myself? No, because I would be working all the time. Would I be more content with life? No, because life will always throw you something you weren't expecting in or out of school.

So as I am writing in this Starbucks simultaneously switching between my studies and this article, I can successfully say that even after one month of school, it has gotten better. I'm learning to balance my time more wisely and I am becoming very successful in my studies. What can I say, it has its ups and downs. But I know that God has me right where he wants me. "Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

2. Even as an undecided major, God has a plan for me

Fast forward to now: School. Study. Sleep. (Pretty much me the past two weeks.) As I am taking all general education courses, required for every major, I know that I am helping to further my degree. But wait, I'm undecided and still do not know what I want to do for the rest of my life. I keep changing my mind and switching between different options. But you know what? God has a plan for me and I know whatever I decide to major in, the Lord's plan for me will line up with that.

3. Don't worry, you will make friends

Constantly sitting alone in class, at lunch, in the library and everywhere else. It's a new place with tons of new faces which can be very overwhelming, but as a couple of weeks went by I started to get more comfortable. I began to put myself out there and have become determined to make new friends. The friends I have made so far will for sure last a lifetime and have definitely made my college experience a little less stressful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
