When I decided to come to a small university, I knew my experience was going to be different from all my friends who decided to go to bigger schools. I knew that my weekends wouldn't be the same, my classes and even my dorm life was going to be completely different- and honestly I was okay with that.
However, when recruitment season rolled around for Greek Life, it has a lot of the same attributes as big schools. The excitement of recruitment and all the fun things that come with being Greek. I went through recruitment and I couldn't be more thankful for the women of the Theta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi.
I was weary at first of sorority life at a small college. I had heard the stories that since I was at a small school, Greek Life would be something almost weird. However, it's the complete opposite. I feel like I'm somewhat close to all of my sisters, instead of a select group. I have the ability to see everyone at least once a week, if not more because our campus is small. I have more chances to be in classes with sisters. It's a nice feeling to have and I couldn't be more grateful for it.
If you go to small college, and are on the fence about going Greek, just go for it. Yes it will be different from the typical big school experience. You won't have the huge houses that look like mansions. You won't have the wild weekend parties and the luxury of living on Greek Row. My university has the Greek village which is filled with some of our organizations, so we still live together. The experience will be different but the experience is still the best one you can get while in college.
You still will have the opportunities to make connections, have networking opportunities and to represent the organization that you love. You will still have sisters or brothers that will have your back through everything. My best friends are Greeks because we are a community still, no matter the size of our campus.
Go Greek wherever you are, you won't regret it. Don't let the size of your campus pull you away from joining. I promise you, it'll be the best thing you could ever do.
