If you’re like me, you are the absolute worst at thinking of what gifts to get the most important people in your life. Balling on a college budget makes it EXTRA difficult to find the perfect gift too. What do you get for the person who has it all? The person who is super picky? The food junkie that has every cooking item invented? Well, through much trial and error, I think I gathered up a few perfect gift ideas for every type of person. Hold onto your credit cards, it’s going to be good.

MOM

Moms are super sentimental (at least mine is) and will love anything that you put your time into. Create a photo book off Shutterfly filled with photos from your childhood till now so she can flip through whenever she’s missing you from home. It is super cheap and a super creative way to make your mom cry.

Another great gift for mom is a candle. Super simple, but White Barn and Yankee Candle have such amazing smells that will totally cover the room. They have food smells, clean smells, any type of smell you can think of. There are so many sizes to choose from that you won’t feel pressured to spend $20 on just one, and can spend $20 on like 4 candles, which means MORE SMELLS!

DAD

For me, my dad is super easy to find a gift for. He loves simple things and doesn’t want anything that costs more than a few bucks. But, there is so much you can find if your dad is like mine, or even if he isn’t. A tee shirt from the college you attend is a simple gift that he can always wear. Hit up small shops in your college town so you don’t have to face the ridiculous bookstore prices. $40 for a shirt I can buy at Walmart? Puh-lease.

SIBLING

Siblings can be tricky, because if they don’t like it, they will tell you. A simple gift for a sister is this super cute bracelet that says ‘sister’ in Morse Code. SICK RIGHT? Even if they aren’t super into jewelry, its’ so thin that it won’t be clunking down their wrist. I don’t have a brother, but my friends who do always get them super specific things. If they like video games, get them a new one (a little more expensive,). If they like sports, get them a new ball or one that has a cool design, possibly of the school you go to. (See the school trend? Super easy and just around the corner).

GRANDPARENTS

Grandparents love you. Hands down. Print out a nice photographed picture, pop it in a frame, and I'm 100% positive they will love it. My cousins and I always compete to see who has more pictures of themselves in our grand-parents house, and this gift will add one more to the list!

FRIENDS

When buying gifts for your friends, listen for hints they may drop about things they love and go from there. Friend who loves makeup? Get them a new bag to take their goodies on the go! Friend who loves coffee? A monogrammed mug shows a personal touch. A friend who seems to have it all? Get them nothing. KIDDING! Find something they constantly use and buy another one. You can never have too many rings or too many neon running shorts to throw on when you overslept for your 9 A.M.

So, let’s go gift givers, don’t be lazy this holiday season and get everyone socks and cards. Hopefully my ideas helped spark some of your own and you will totally kill the gift game this year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
