Gender-Neutral Bathroom Controversy

There is a new free app for phones called Whatsgoodly where anyone can make an anonymous account to take polls, answer questions and leave comments on other users content. I am new to this app and decided to ask one simple question: "Do you agree with gender-neutral bathrooms?" The poll consisted of two choices, "yes" or "no," and had the option to leave comments. The poll ended up with these answers.

  • Malevotes – (Yes -1,824 votes) (No – 2,931 votes)
  • Femalevotes - Yes – (1,983 votes) (No – 1,704 votes)
  • Total Votes – 8,442

Gender-neutral bathrooms are a controversial topic right now so the findings were not surprising, but the comments on the other hand were.

There were more comments filled with hatred than supportive ones. Here are some examples of comments that were posted (they were not edited).

They were very against it...

"Penises in one bathroom, vaginas is the other. Not that f*cking hard stop crying about everything"

"Who gives a sh*t"

They made a joke of it...

"Why the f*ck do we have people who don't sexually classify as anything but we don't have bathrooms for people who sexually identify as a potato? I'm offended by that. I'm a potato"

They supported it...

"I agree with gender neutral bathrooms as an option but not the norm"

"When I need to pee I wanna use the first bathroom I see. Not search for some my gender"

"The bathroom is literally a place to drop your waste, it has no gender!!!! there's stalls for a reason!!!!!!!!"

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, wants and needs. But where is the line drawn on being rude to one another. One of the users went on for over five comments to state that transgenders have mental illnesses not civil rights problems.

"And I say that as someone who supports gay rights because people can be born naturally gay and it occurs in other species but transgender? That's just a mental illness"

So, where does it stop? We can all sit around and debate our opinions and our beliefs, we can all state how we feel, but we cannot bash on one another because someone believes in something they don't or be close-minded to prevalent issues that we have today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
