To The Friend Who Is Always By My Side

To my better half,

Throughout the many many years that we've known each other, so many things have changed. You have consistently been the person year after year that I know will always have my back. I have never questioned where our friendship lies and know you'll be there for me when I need you. You helped me become the person that I am today, and for that, I am forever grateful. You have seen the worst versions of myself but didn't give up, you have been there for the most important milestones in my life, and you have wiped many tears from my eyes and kept me laughing on the floor too many times to count.

Thank you for being my person. For being the one person who could tell my life story and not miss a single detail. Thank you for being there for me at any hour of the day and especially on those late nights, I don't know how I could have done it without you. You are consistently there for me year after year and my favorite person to tell good (and bad) news. You never gave up on me, even when I gave up on myself and picked me up from rock bottom.

Thank you for being honest. You never fail to let me know when I'm not looking my best or when I'm screwing up. Whenever I come to you for advice or help, you never fail to tell me the things I need to hear, even if it's not what I want to hear. You never let other's opinions or perspectives affect your own and that's what makes your advice so great. You are the only person I know who can tell me that I'm being an idiot in the most caring and loving way possible.

Thank you for making me feel better when I need it most. You know me so well and know how to cheer me up when I'm not at my best. Those are the laughs that I remember most. The days I have spent mad or depressed have been days I won't forget because of how you tried to make me happy. You can turn my whole mood around just by talking to you.

Thank you for setting a good example, you have always been someone that I look up to. You have a way of captivating everyone you meet and have such grace that I wish I had. You continuously make me want to be a better person, get more involved and get motivated to reach my goals. You have been a built in a life coach, cheerleader and biggest supporter.

Thank you for teaching me to love myself. I don’t know how many times I spent crying in your bed about the things I hated most about myself. You told me there are qualities about me that others wish I had and that out worst enemy is our negative thoughts. You told me that the only opinion about myself that matters, is my own and that is something I keep in mind every day. You are the most confident person I know and that has rubbed off on me. Your love and acceptance allowed me to be comfortable with who I am. And God I love you for that.

Thank you for being you. You are a one of a kind person and people like you don’t come around very often. You really are the most genuine, caring, funny, poised and bright person I know. You have so much going for you and I only wish the best for you. You have a way with connecting with people that is unlike anything I have ever seen. You are beautiful on the inside and out, and there’s no wonder why so many people love you.

Above all, thank you for being my best friend, my rock, my go-to. Despite the times we’ve spent apart, boy drama, foolish fights, people thinking that we’re dating, laughs, cries and everything in between, you’ve been there for me. You have always been by my side and will always be by my side. We have gone months without seeing each other to 2 days with severe separation anxiety. Thank you for everything you have done for me and for everything I know you will do for me in the future. I’ll love you forever and never doubt that. Thank you for being a positive force in my life.

Love,

Your other half

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
