Along with being my absolute favorite holiday, Halloween just so happens to be the spookiest night of the year.
Halloween is when it is appropriate for all the ghouls and gals to go wild and cause a little mischief. Here, at The Odyssey, we're kicking off our month-long celebration with four ways to do Halloween. Here's how we're doing it.
1. Tricks and Treats. I got this amazing recipe from Southern Living. The concoction is called Brew-Ha-Ha Punch and the taste is out of this world! Pineapple flavoring, lime, and ginger ale all come together to make up this fun and spooky beverage. If you want to amp up your presentation, place the punch bowl into a larger bowl, and add dry ice to larger bowl! If you are of age, you can also throw in some of your favorite clear liquor.
Ingredients
2 cups sugar
2 quarts water
2 (0.13 envelopes lime drink mix
1 (46-ounce) can pineapple juice
1 quart ginger ale
Preparation
Stir together sugar and two quarts water until sugar is dissolved. Stir in remaining ingredients. Chill. Voila! Yields 4 quarts.
2. Chew On This. Ditch the leotard and cat ears this Halloween and, instead, bake up some cute cat-inspired snacks! Gather up friends, and pair your cupcake eating with a movie, for the perfect girls night-in!
Black Cat Cupcakes. Using purchased or homemade cupcakes in any flavor, frost each cupcake with chocolate frosting. Cover the cupcakes with chocolate sprinkles; be generous to give the impression of fur. For eyes, cut a one-eighth inch slice from the large end of two yellow gumdrops. Stick a short piece of shoestring licorice to the cut side of each slice to act as the cat's pupil. Press the eyes into the frosted cupcakes. For ears, use a paring knife to cut chocolate candy coating dots into triangles. Insert ears into the frosting. For whiskers, cut shoestring licorice into one-and-a-half to two-inch lengths and arrange on cupcakes. Pipe a frosting nose on cupcakes.
3. Pumpkin Decor Galore. Round up your sisters and host a pumpkin painting party! This eliminates the potential, "uh-ohs," that coincide with carving pumpkins and adds a whole lot of fun! You can take one of many routes: puffy paint, sequins, scrapbook stickers, beads, or glitter galore! Either way, you'll have a work of art to show off!
4. Showing Face. You don't have to shell out major bucks for a costume, if you've got the right makeup tools. We all know sorority girls are super handy with a paint brush, and fully loaded when it comes to their makeup pallets! You could be a pop art Lichtenstein-esque princess, an extra-sassy pageant queen with over-done stage makeup, or a sugar skull babe. The options are endless!
