For The Girls Going Through Sorority Recruitment

Sorority life is not for everyone, but if you're at least considering it, DO IT.

If you're even considering going through recruitment, DO IT. You don't have to be 100% sure it's for you going into it, but it's worth the shot. It won't hurt to go through the week and see if it's for you.

Sorority recruitment lasted 6 days and was so much fun, exhausting, draining, thrilling, exciting, and emotional. I remember freaking out about my outfits, jewelry and shoes weeks before attending. It's a big week! You're truly stepping into Womanhood! I learned a lot about myself that week. I learned that this is a process for everyone to find their OWN home. Not a process for me to compare myself to the girl next to me in line. So here's some advice for the College Freshman girl going through sorority recruitment.

This week is about you being YOURSELF and no one else.

BE CONFIDENT. Put on some lipstick and smile a lot. Recruitment should be fun!!

DON'T STRESS. This one is so hard because recruitment can be crazy emotional. There's a possibility you'll be torn between 2-3 houses. But don't stress and remain calm. You will find where you belong!

YOU'RE CLOTHES LOOK GREAT. It's so easy to get in a room with 100+ girls and put yourself down. Your outfits are going to be great.

THEY MAKE THE CONVERSATION. I remember being so nervous to keep the conversation going. They ask the questions and it's there job to keep the flow. If there's an awkward silence ask them about their major, or why they chose that house.

Put on comfy shoes to walk from house to house.

PNM means Potential New Member.

Every house is a "chapter".

Every house has a philanthropy. It's the organization that they partner with.

PRACTICE WALKING IN YOUR WEDGES AND HEELS. Some university's have house tours. Save yourself the embarrassment and practice walking up and down stairs in your wedges and heels.

DRINK THE WATER. When you enter a house if they give you water, DRINK IT. 1. It'll be hot outside and you need to stay dehydrated. 2. Nothing is more awkward then handing the girl your water that hasn't been touched.

When you have your phone take pictures! It's a week full of memories.

Don't talk bad about anyone, anything, or any houses during recruitment. Stay classy!

TELL THEM YOU LOVE IT THERE. It's difficult sometimes for houses to know if you're just being nice or if you're really loving it. If you can see yourself in the house and you love it, it's okay to tell the girl. They need to know these things!

BREAK-UP. It's okay to tell a house your heart is at another house if you are ready to end your time at that specific house, just don't use names. It's called "the break-up".

WRITE NOTES. The second you get out of a house take notes. Write the girls names you talked to, what you talked about, and you can even rate the house on a scale of 1 to 10.

DON'T MISPRONOUNCE THE HOUSES. Make sure you know how to pronounce the house before saying it out loud to a member. For instance "Chi" is not like the straightener chi pronounced "ch-ee". It is pronounced "K-eye". :)

RELAX. At this point of the article you may already be stressing. Take a deep breathe. It's going to be an unforgettable week! During the week get plenty of rest and call your mom.

HEART-BREAK. A house that you loved might drop you. It's probably going to happen, and tears are fine. But...IT'S OKAY. Put your smile back on your face and make it a good day!

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. It will be hot. You will be cranky. And you might have to sprint in wedges. But STAY POSITIVE. Recruitment is supposed to be fun!!

BID DAY IS THE GREATEST DAY EVVERRRRR!!! Wake up screaming and jumping in the air on bid day! It's the day YOU'RE RUNNING HOME. Get pumped and thank God for the opportunity!

Sorority recruitment is not for everyone, but if you're at least considering, do it. It could change your life. Plus, who doesn't want 250+ sisters to do life with?

Good luck in recruitment beautiful freshman!!

And just like everyone says "you'll end up where you need to be".

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
