Some people think they know it all, but sometimes there are things only people who live in New York understand. Here are five of them.
1. There is much more to New York than just New York City.
Every time I say I'm from New York people automatically assume that I'm from the city. Believe it or not New York is actually an entire state and not just a city. New York is actually the 27th largest state in the country and only a small part of that is New York City. Next time someone tells you they're from New York ask them what part of the state they're from before you assume they're from the city. I can guarantee you they'll be happy you asked.
2. Our pizza and bagels are the best!
There is no argument that New York has the best pizza and bagels! Sure our pizza is no Chicago deep dish but our thin crust is definitely the best. And pretty much all of our bagel shops make fresh bagels daily so you only get the best of the best.
3. There are more parts of New York City besides Manhattan.
New York City is actually made up of five boroughs. There's Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan. Each one is completely different in their own unique way.
4. No, not all of us are rude.
Many people believe the stereotype that New Yorkers are rude. The truth is yes, there are some rude people in New York but the reality is there are rude people everywhere. Yes, I'm a little bias but some of the nicest people I've met have been from New York.
5. There is a major debate on whether or not the Hudson Valley is considered upstate New York.
I've lived in the Hudson Valley my entire life, and to me, I do not live upstate. But to many people that live on Long Island and New York City, we are considered upstate. Check out the picture below and tell me what you think. Is the Hudson Valley upstate New York or not?
